We are huge fans of printmaker Richard Shimell who produces wonderfully detailed linocut prints of trees. We have two of his beautiful prints on our wall. I love the linocut format and I wondered if I could reproduce the ‘look’ of a linocut in Photoshop. Here are a few of my attempts.

This short walk (3.3 miles) starts and ends at the Pullabrook Wood carpark (SX789801 on the OS map). The walk follows minor roads and footpaths and does include some modest gradients over some fairly rough paths, so appropriate footwear is essential.

Reduced opportunities for travel have meant that photographers have needed to look closer to home for inspiration. Visiting insects can make great subjects. With a bit of forward planning you can bring even more insect ‘models’ to your door. Photographers are not necessarily gardeners (and vice versa). So, if you are a photographer who has no real knowledge of gardening here are a few simple things that you can do to attract more subject matter.

Agricultural or ‘country’ shows are an important event in many people’s calendar. For photographers, they provide an opportunity to get ‘up close and personal’ with animals and activities that they would find hard to access at other times. Not this year. Covid 19 has caused the cancellation of many events.

Every May we look forward to the appearance of bluebells. They put on a spectacular show in the woodlands and on the open moors in our region and nothing can compare with the heavenly scent of a bluebell wood in flower.
